On April 19, 2014, was the debut of the FIVE Grappling Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament in Fort Worth, TX held inside the Fort Worth Convention Center. It was a packed arena with over 1,000 competitors that came in from all over. Team Alvarez BJJ in Arlington TX brought the second largest team on the roster. With just one academy, representing just one team, Alvarez Jiu Jitsu took on all the other academies that had multiple affiliations put together under one flag. Even with being out numbered by a large amount, the Alvarez BJJ Army didn’t go down without a fight in each division.

The day started off at 9 am with the Alvarez BJJ Kids and Teens Army battling against some of the best kids in the state. Then later in the afternoon it was time for the Black Belts to put it on the line. Head Instructor of Alvarez BJJ in Arlington TX, Professor Danny Alvarez, stepped and battled along side his Alvarez BJJ Warriors with 2 matches of his own. Professor Alvarez took on Mr. Piet Wilhelm, Head Instructor of Triton BJJ out of Oklahoma City, Ok, where he won a tough match by a score of 9-0. Professor Alvarez than won his Finals match for the FIVE Grappling Championship Belt against super tough, Mr. Daniel Rivas, Head Instructor of Rivas BJJ out of Houston, TX.

One of the stand out Adults of the day for Team Alvarez was Mr. Jordan Shepler, who fought and took Gold in 4 different divisions. Big congrats to Mr. Shepler for some awesome performances and on one heck of day. There were a lot of great wins along with some tough losses and learning experiences.
